Overview
This program is designed to provide knowledge, techniques, and skills used in criminal justice, homeland security, emergency response, public safety, or law enforcement, among other occupations.
To earn the Associate of Science degree in Homeland Security, 90 quarter credits are required. Credits must come from the following sources:
- Core Courses (60 quarter credits)
- General Education Courses (30 quarter credits)
Goal: Students can prepare for an Associate of Science degree in Homeland Security. Graduates of this program will have the well-rounded foundation they need, with exposure to all the topical areas, to advance their career in the multi-faceted world of Homeland Security and Homeland Defense. Upon completion, the student will be equipped with basic knowledge and skills to enter the Homeland Security field or to further their formal education in this field.Prerequisites: College Admission Requirements.
Requirements
Age: An applicant must be eighteen years on or before his or her graduation. Some state and federal agencies require that an individual be 18 years of age to be qualified for licensure or certification.
General Education Requirement:
In addition to the core courses required for the Associate of Science degree, the program requires the successful completion of 30 quarter credits in six categories of general education. Careers
The Associate of Science degree in Homeland Security is designed to prepare students with or without previous law enforcement or security training for a meaningful career in the field of homeland security.
The program provides a well-rounded foundation in the basics of homeland security and homeland defense. Graduates will understand the interactions and relationships between homeland security and other disciplines including law enforcement, emergency management and preparedness, seaport security, international and domestic terrorism, intelligence gathering and information sharing between agencies along with public health issues relating to homeland security. Upon completion, the student will be equipped with basic knowledge and skills to enter the homeland security field or to further their formal education in this field.
