Age
An applicant must be eighteen years or older on or before his or her graduation date. In order to participate in the Advanced Diver Medic program, a student must be 18 years or older.
Medical Examination
An applicant to the Marine Technology Program is required to pass a diving medical examination (including drug and HIV screening) at his or her expense. This examination must be performed by a licensed medical doctor in accordance with the College and the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADC) protocols, using a College Medical Acceptance Form (available from Admissions Department). The College recommends that the medical examination be completed close to the start of the 50-week program. All completed diving medical examinations are subject to review and the College makes the final determination as to the applicant's acceptance.
The College reserves the right to deny an application if requirements are not met.
Scuba Certification
For the marine technology program, it is recommended but not required that the applicant be scuba certified by a recognized scuba certification agency before starting classes.
Diver's Log Book
Each student is required to maintain an approved Diver's Log Book to verify experience, dives, and academic training in preparation for employment and promotion within the diving industry. The Diver's Log Book must contain a personal passport-size photo. Each student is responsible for keeping the Diver's Log Book current and accurate. Instructors will verify dives and will stamp each entry with the official College stamp.
Working Overseas
Many countries have unique regulations for the training of commercial divers. Additional training after graduation may be required if you plan to work overseas. Please check the qualifications, certifications, work permit regulations, and immigration requirements of the particular country being considered. Be aware that foreign immigration laws may restrict or prevent your working overseas.
Students are encouraged to obtain a passport while in school. Visit the U.S. Passport website for more information.
