Credits/Hours: 6 Credits

Covers the fundamentals of visual testing to include visual limitations, inspector responsibilities, codes and standards, weld joint geometry, welding terminology, welding/NDT symbols, mechanical and chemical properties of metals, destructive testing, metallurgy, weld processes, and weld and base metal discontinuities. Students also learn to use and maintain a variety of visual enhancing test equipment to include, but not limited to, assorted measuring tools, cathodic potential meters, still photography cameras, and closed circuit television systems. Students also gain knowledge in the planning and the conducting of an underwater survey. Students are required to interpret a workscope and develop data sheets and informational reports. Training is in accordance with ASNT recommended practice number: SNT-TC-1A for VT Level II training and Canadian Standard 48.9712 as per I.S.O. 9000 series and also serves as preparatory course for American Welding Society Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) test.

Prerequisites: ST266, Marine Technology I, and approved physical.
