Covers the fundamental concepts, terminology, and practical skills of line handling, rigging, and ship's husbandry. Students learn the fundamentals of line (rope) and wire rope classification, composition, and use. Students learn the proper tying and use of knots and their practical application by divers. Students learn the working load limit (WLL) for rope, wire, and rigging hardware, as well as to calculate the ratio and mechanical advantage of block and tackle. Students learn to work with rigging hardware. Rigging and forklift operation are introduced as used in the diving industry. Pre-dive planning, site inspection, and safety during underwater work are emphasized. Students are trained to the Recommended Practice for Crane Rigging Safety Training Standard (RP-2D) as set forth by the American Petroleum Institute and to State and Federal OSHA requirements for Forklift Operator Training.
