Hyperbaric Medical Technology students are required to complete a 480-hour clinical internship prior to graduation thereby satisfying the clinical requirements of the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) to sit for the national certifying examination. This course is the first of a two-part series that provides specific training and clinical internship in the multiplace clinical environment in an approved chamber facility. The five-week assignment introduces the multiplace training syllabus in the areas of chamber systems and equipment, chamber operations, emergency procedures, and operational safety. This class will complete at least 100 clinical hours. In addition, a HIPAA compliant case study is required at the completion of the course as part of the final grade. Students will meet a minimum of four times with the course coordinator to review progress and integrate clinical experiences. Students are placed in multi and monoplace hyperbaric facilities to receive the required contact hours and to complete specific training syllabus objectives. Prerequisites: HT100, MT286, and approved physical.
