About the President
Kathleen Winston
President, National Polytechnic College of Science
Kathleen Winston brought more than 30 years of experience in both higher education and the healthcare industry when she was named President of National Polytechnic College of Science in November, 2008.
Before joining National Polytechnic, she served as Dean, Health Sciences and Human Services in the Emeritus Institute at Saddleback College, a position she held from 2003 to 2008. In her role as dean, she administered the operation of a 14,000-student division with five health sciences programs, seven human services certificates, and an American Sign Language/Interpreting program.
Previously, she served as Interim Dean, Health Sciences and Nursing Program Director at Pasadena City College from 2001-2003, and Lead District School Nurse for Corona-Norco Unified School District from 1995-2001. She also served as an associate professor of nursing at both Cypress College (1994-1995) and California State University, San Bernardino (1991-1994). Her professional career also includes stints with the County of Riverside; Azusa Pacific University; California State University, Fullerton; Chaffey Community College; Westminster College in Salt Lake City; Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas; Hillcrest College in San Diego, Planned Parenthood; Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina; and Greater El Monte Community Hospital.
Ms. Winston earned an associate’s and a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. She earned master’s of science in nursing degrees from both California State University, Los Angeles (1977) and the University of San Diego (1979). She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in nursing education and administration from the University of San Diego. She holds certificates in audiology and as a public health nurse. She also holds a health services credential (K-12) as well as a California community college lifetime teaching credential. She is a licensed registered nurse, also in California.
