Personal Statement
Dr. Craig served as an enlisted airman in the U.S. Air Force, where he was an electronics repairman. He began his NDT career as a civilian metals inspector in the Naval Inspection Service, certified Level II in PT and UT. He was then senior NDT inspector at Duke Energy, where he was Level II certified in PT, MT, UT and RT.
After completing his B.S. degree, Dr. Craig worked for the for the U.S. Public Health Service as a radiological engineer, for the U.S. Navy as a materials engineer, then completed both his master's degrees in NDT/physics and in materials science before assum-ing responsibility as life-cycle manager for the U.S. Navy NDT programs for air and, subsequently, sea systems/operations. He moved to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), then returned to the Department of Defense (DOD) as senior principal engineer for materials at Defense Technology Security Administration. In 1995, he retired from DOD after 27 years combined Federal service, then completed his diploma in community college education (physics teaching) and his Ph.D. In 1991, Dr. Craig was awarded the Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Medal for establishing and leading the DOD/DOE technical team that identified the presence of Iraq's clandestine nuclear weapons of mass destruction program the previous summer.
Dr. Craig is a member of ASNT and the American Welding Society (AWS) and is a senior member of the American Society for Quality. He was elected to professional membership in the educational association Phi Delta Kappa International in 1996.
